Switzerland in 10 Days: Zurich, Interlaken & Zermatt

The Alps the way they were meant to be seen — slowly, properly, without rushing.

Ten days through the heart of Switzerland. Zurich to start, then deep into the Bernese Oberland with Interlaken as a base for Grindelwald and Männlichen, finishing in car-free Zermatt under the Matterhorn. This is the itinerary we built from our own trip — we know which mountain to spend on and which to skip, where to eat for half the usual price, and how to make the Swiss Travel Pass actually pay for itself.

Here's the shape of the trip. The full PDF has specific hotel names, restaurant picks, booking links, and exact logistics for every step.

Days 1–2

Zurich

Old town alleys, the Limmat river, Zurich's famously good museums, and the neighbourhood where locals actually eat dinner

Day 3

Zurich → Interlaken

A 2-hour train journey that skirts Lake Lucerne — worth a window seat

Days 4–5

Grindelwald & Männlichen

The most spectacular mountain views we've ever had — and a walk that costs a fraction of Jungfraujoch

Day 6

Lucerne (day trip)

Chapel Bridge, the old town, lake steamers, and the best fondue in the region

Days 7–8

Zermatt

Car-free village under the Matterhorn. Gornergrat railway, Schwarzsee lake, the fondue dinner worth saving for

Days 9–10

Zermatt → Zurich

Final mountain walks, return journey, last evening in Zurich

Day 11

Depart Zurich

Direct train to airport
